For agents, agencies, and individuals
Renewing your standing every plan year
Standing lapses quietly. Nobody calls to tell you that you are no longer able to assist.
What repeats and what carries over
What do I have to redo?
The training for the coming plan year and acceptance of the current agreements. Returning agents take a shorter curriculum than newcomers, but shorter is not the same as skipped.
What carries over?
Your verified identity and your account generally persist. Your licence continues on its own state renewal schedule, which is a separate calendar you also have to watch.
How would I know if my standing lapsed?
Usually when something stops working: an application will not accept you as the assisting agent, or your name is absent from the published list of registered agents. That is a bad way to find out.
What does a lapse cost me?
Time during the period when time is scarcest, and credit for work in progress. Clients rarely wait quietly while an agent sorts out their own paperwork.
A calendar that prevents it
What dates should be in my calendar?
Licence renewal, continuing education deadlines, the opening of the plan year training cycle, and a reminder well before enrollment to confirm you appear as registered. Four entries prevent most emergencies.
Is there a check worth doing every season?
Look yourself up the way a client or a carrier would, and confirm you appear where you expect. Verifying your own standing takes a minute and removes an assumption you cannot afford.
