For agents, agencies, and individuals
Proving who you are to Marketplace systems
Identity proofing is the step that surprises agents most, because it fails for ordinary reasons that have nothing to do with insurance.
Why this step exists at all
What is identity proofing checking?
That the person creating an account is the licensed individual they claim to be. Because agents handle other people’s personal information, access is tied to a verified identity rather than to an email address alone.
Why does it fail for people with nothing to hide?
Verification compares what you enter against records held elsewhere. A recent move, a new phone number, a name change, a thin credit file or a security freeze can all cause a mismatch. None of them means anything is wrong with you.
What should I have ready?
Your legal name as it appears on government records, your current address and its history, and a phone number in your own name. Consistency matters more than recency: enter what the records hold, not what you prefer.
What if it still will not pass?
There is a manual path with documentation review. It works, but it takes time, which is the argument for doing this long before enrollment rather than the week it opens.
Protecting the account afterwards
Can I share my login with an assistant?
No. The account is tied to your verified identity, and anything done with it is attributed to you. Anyone who needs access should be credentialed in their own right.
What should I do if I suspect misuse?
Change the credential immediately, then report it rather than waiting to see whether anything comes of it. An account used by someone else is a client-data problem before it is an account problem.
